Legacy Of Disorder

Review by David Norris
Heading to Dallas, Texas to record under the helm of Sterling Winfield (PANTERA/HELLYEAH) turned out to be more beneficial for LEGACY OF DISORDER than just acquiring a metric dozen songs with world-class production values. They also solidified their current line up adding renown drummer Matt Thompson (KING DIAMOND/SHAOLIN DEATH SQUAD), and if you're listening to this for no other reason than the fact that you're a Thompson fan, you won't be disappointed with his efforts on the self titled debut release from this Nelson band.
Nominated for Best Metal Video at the 2010 Juice TV Awards in New Zealand, Facade is a song, which encompasses the band's essence perfectly. With no shortage of guitar riffs, the song powers forth with the intense rhythm section of Thompson and bassist Jason Keill. Lead singer James Robinson, despite being the most inexperienced member of the band, growls with the intensity of seasoned metal vocalist Max Cavalera but also shows his ability to quickly change up and provide melodies reminiscent of Corey Taylor.
Pay The Price is a standout track. It's one of the few songs on the album, which possesses strong vocal melodies as well as outstanding guitar hooks. It's also the first song on the album, which features an acoustic element, even if it's only very short lived and confined only to the song's introduction. Rana Freilich's guitar work is nothing but outstanding as he interchanges between low end, chugging guitar riffs and high-end lead breaks along with the best of them. The Beginning is ironically the ending of the album, and blends haunting vocal melodies and acoustic guitars, which bare a similarity to SILVERCHAIR's early years with what will soon be known as signature LEGACY OF DISORDER riffing.
There's an old saying that “the cream always rises to the top” and in such a small jar as the New Zealand music industry, the pasteurisation process is a much simpler and quicker process. After listening to the self-titled debut release from LEGACY OF DISORDER, it's quite apparent that their rise to the top will be swift. You can't ask for much more from a first release, the band clearly know what they're doing and have worked hard at creating an album which lays a solid foundation to create a lengthy career upon. If they are able to create more songs similar to those I mentioned, it won't be long before we see them battling it out amongst the metal heavyweights across the globe.
